Directions For Use

For best results, use with a completely pickled and shaved hide that has been neutralized to a pH of 5. Prepare just enough of  a solution of 1/8 lb salt per gallon solution to completely submerge the hide. Add Tannin Liquor at 8-16 oz per gallon based on desired tanning strength. Let soak, agitating the solution daily. Thin skinned animals like fox take ~ 1week to fully penetrate the thickest parts of the neck, while thicker skins like elk and moose take 3-6 months to complete tan through. Add additional Tannin Liquor if the color starts to dilute. Once completely tanned, adjust the pH to 3.5 and remove from the solution and allow to air dry or proceed to lubricating with Tanner's Yolk. A suitable tannin liquor solution should have a rich, earthy smell. The dried leather will take exceptionally well to sanding.
