What products do I need to tan fur skins?
Our complete tanning line includes cleaning and de-greasing solutions, tanning agents, and finishing oils / waxes designed specifically for fur and hide processing. Our Ultimate Tanner's Kit is a great way to learn and become proficient at home tanning.

How long does the tanning process take?
For Bark Tanning with Tannin Liquor, hides can take from 4 days to over 3 months depending on hide quality, thickness, age and how well the tanner prepares the hide. For AlphaTan, less than 12 hours. For Tanner's Yolk, paint on to a damp hide and allow it to soak in and dry, up to 3 days.

Can I use these products on all types of fur?
Yes, our products are designed to work with fur bearers, domesticated animals and un-haired hides.

What safety precautions should I take?
Wear gloves, wash hands often and protect your eyes from splashing. See specific product SDS for complete PPE instructions.

How do I care for tanned fur after completion?
Do not machine wash. Seek professional cleaning for heavily soiled furs. Furs will stand up to gentle cleaning with soap and water, avoid soaking or using detergents/solvents.

How much product do I need for my specific animal?
Check out the tanning guide documents under the resources tab of the website for specifics. In general, weight the dried pelt for most accurate estimates. You can also take the green or wet hide weight of a properly fleshed animal and divide by 2 to get a good estimate for dried hide weight, then follow the recommended usage chart. Following the usage chart for each product will give satisfactory results.

Where can I get hides to tan?
The best way to get hides is from personally hunting and trapping in accordance with your state laws. You can also check your state laws regarding buying raw furs from trappers. In some states, a fur buyer's license can be obtained for very little and let you bid at fur auctions. Your state trapper's association can also be a good resource. Roadkill can also be a great way to practice tanning, but again be sure to check your state laws governing possession and take of roadkill.
